BURSARIES
Background and aims
WONCA Europe Conference 2024 and the European Young Family Doctors' Movement, has united to provide financial support for young family physicians throughout the region and to foster their integration into the international community of general practitioners. The remarkable influence and resilience of WONCA Europe and the EYFDM community stem from the diversity of their members. While each member is equally valuable, true equality requires equity.
The Fund has been established to level the playing field for participation in the WONCA Europe Conference and EYFDM Preconference 2024 in Dublin. We specifically utilize the Fund to assist those with low income and those who are newcomers to the international community of Family Physicians. We firmly believe that involvement in these events can enhance the motivation to excel as a physician and facilitate the creation of a robust network of family doctors across the continent.
Our objective is to fortify Primary Care in the European region by empowering, inspiring, and connecting its general practitioners.
Refund
There are two bursaries thresholds: 1000 € and 500 €. The final amount of the bursary given to the applicant will be decided by the Jury. The refund can cover:
- registration fee for the EYFDM Preconference Dublin 2024
- registration fee for the WONCA Europe Conference Dublin 2024
- the cost of flight tickets to EYFDM Preconference and WONCA Europe Conference 2024 in Dublin
- the cost of accommodation during EYFDM Preconference and WONCA Europe Conference 2024 in Dublin

Calendar
- All the documents must be sent to the woncaeyfdmbursaries2024@guarant.cz by the the 31 March 2024.
- The applicants will be informed about results through emails by the 20 April 2024.
Other requirements
- The applicant will be asked to describe her/his experience (using 250–500 words) within one month after attending the event.
- The applicant will be asked to send the proof of incurred costs (e.g.bills, invoices).
- The applicant has to attend both events: WONCA Europe Conference 2024 and the EYFDM Preconference 2024.
The reimbursement will be given up to two months after finalising mentioned above requirements.
Jury
The Selection of the two Fund recipients will be made by a Jury made up of representatives from EYFDM and WONCA Europe who will evaluate the application forms.
Exclusion criteria
We cannot provide the reimbursement if the Fund recipient:
- is not a young family physician (a family medicine trainee or up to 5 years after finishing training, valid in September 2024)
- is not a member of a National Member Organisation of WONCA within the Europe Region (valid on the 31 March 2024)
- fails to prove attendance at the WONCA Europe Conference and EYFDM Preconference in Dublin
- attended the WONCA Europe Conference without attending EYFDM Preconference or attend EYFDM Preconference without attending WONCA Europe
- conference fails to send a report of her/his experience within one month after the event fails to prove the incurred costs
- is a winner of a previous WONCA/ EYFDM (previously VdGM) fund or scholarship
- lives currently in Ireland
Special terms for young family physicians from Ukraine
Two bursaries will be reserved only for applicants from Ukraine. Applicants from Ukraine will undergo the same application process, they have to fulfill all the criteria that are described here.
Consent
By applying for the Fund, the applicant agrees on:
- using her/his photo for publicity purposes on the WONCA Europe/ EYFDM social media channels and/or website
- publishing her/his report about the attended events (live and/or virtual) for publicity purposes on the WONCA Europe/ EYFDM social media channels and/or website
The first two consents aim to disseminate the value of participation in the mentioned events and raise awareness of the significance of the Fund. The personal data can be omitted at the request of the candidate.
INFORMATION REGARDING THE GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION (GDPR)
All the personal information is compulsory to prepare the logistics related your attendance at the WONCA Europe Conference 2024 and EYFDM Preconference 2024 in Dublin.
You may decline to provide your personal data. In this case, however, you will not be able to duly and validly prepare your travel and you will lose your entitlement for this Fund. The WONCA Europe and GUARANT International, as data processing controller, collects and uses only personal data necessary to allow for the sound management of the grant, as suggested in this document.
Your personal data will not be shared with any third party and will only be kept as long as necessary for the purposes related to Fund (i.e. audit of relevant budgets).
In accordance with the GDPR, you have a right to access, modify, rectify and delete data that you accepted to share. Under certain circumstances, by law you have also the right to:
- define directives concerning the management of your personal information after your death;
- object, in whole or in part, to processing of your personal information;
- request the restriction of processing of your personal information;
- request the portability, where applicable, or your personal information;

You also have a right of lodging a complaint with competent supervisory authority situated in a EU-Member State, in the event of a breach of the regulation that applies concerning the data protection.
